It can be frustrating if you have multiple cameras with different remote controller sockets – and if you’ve been keen on photography for any length of time, that’s quite likely. Despite its inexpensive asking price, the HRN 280 solves the problem by coming complete with three separate cables to suit all MC-DC1, MC-DC2 and 10-pin connectors. Each plugs securely into the main controller unit, with a twist-lock action. An additional two-metre extension cable is supplied in case the standard 80cm camera cables come up short. All four cables are a little thicker and feel better quality than the Phottix XS cable.

Operation is basic, identical to that of the Phottix XS controller. The dual-action button has a similarly pleasant feel and has a sliding lock for bulb exposures. The HRN 280 is compatible with all Nikon cameras that have a remote controller socket
