OUR APPRENTICE says…

Steven lent me his 50mm f/1.4 for these window-lit portraits, and I did struggle at first with the focusing. I tried manual focus instead, but Dave explained how it just wasn’t accurate enough. It turns out the problem was simple: I had my D7000 set to continuous AF rather than single-shot autofocus, and I was accidentally moving the AF point with my thumb on the controller. I really like this shot of Steffi against the white venetian blinds, but the key to the lighting was the huge reflector that Steve held just out of shot, bouncing light from the window back into Steffi’s face.
