NPhoto - - The Photo Apprentice -

I brought my Nikon 55-300mm telephoto along, but Lloyd opened up his camera bag to reveal some extra choices. He let me borrow his Nikon 300mm f/4, and N-Photo brought along a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 for me to try out too. The 70-200mm was good for shots of aircraft at take-off and landing, while the 300mm was better for longer-range shots when they were airborne. Lloyd’s 300mm lens was an old D-type model, though, and I just couldn’t get to grips with the autofocus, which was slower than I’m used to. Lloyd gets great results with it, though, so my first lesson was that telephoto photography is a craft, and it takes time to learn – it’s not just about buying expensive kit!
