Although the footage and JPEGs produced when using the new Flat Picture Control may seem dull and lacking in contrast, professional and enthusiast videographers will appreciate this option because it gives them more dynamic range to work with when they are grading (processing) their movies. In most cases they will want to increase the contrast, but they can decide where in the tone curve it needs to be boosted most and can make sure that the highlight and shadow detail is retained.
