EXPERT INS IGHT Working with th e light

-

David says… One mistake many amateurs make is to fight the light. With this scene the sun was behind the clouds to the left of the castle, so there was little point in trying to capture a ‘classic’ shot of the castle bathed in light. Instead we chose to work with the light, which meant under-exposing slightly to silhouette the castle even more. This ensured the bright beach and sky weren’t completely blown out, and it gave our finished image a very clean, graphic quality. Had we tried to expose the castle ‘correctly’, the image would have looked washed out.
