Here’s another shot in which tim­ing was key. Jayne ex­plained that waves rush­ing back down a beach look more im­pres­sive at slow shut­ter speeds than waves rush­ing up a beach. She also warned me to avoid cap­tur­ing the harsh white line of an in­com­ing wave – as this can take over the im­age – and to strive to fill the fore­ground with move­ment by wad­ing in up to my an­kles and wait­ing for the waves to rush back past me. I think I’ve man­aged this quite ef­fec­tively here. I es­pe­cially like the way the ‘V’ of the big thun­der­cloud echoes the in­verted ‘V’ of the white wa­ter on the left of the shot.
