The hardest subjects to photograph can be the things that seem most ordinary. Pretty much everyone, everywhere, will go shopping at some point in their lives – so how can you turn that into an interesting and artistic image? That was the challenge we set in our most recent photo competition. Because the holidays affected our judging dates, we got fewer entries than usual, but there were some absolute blinders in there. We got portraits of shoppers, both happy and weary, shots of street markets and shopping malls, and wonderful still-life images of goods for sale. The judges chose Alessandro Passerini’s image of a woman buying trainers as their favourite, while the crowd vote went to Julio Cesar Hoffman’s atmospheric interior.
If you’d like to see what the judges and your fellow N-Photo readers have to say about your own images (and have a shot at winning a fantastic Manfrotto 3N1-25 PL Pro Lite Camera bag worth £200, pictured right), why not enter our latest competition online at www.photocrowd.com? The theme is ‘Signs’, and as always, the more creative the interpretation of the theme, the better – but do stay on-theme!
