Photography using hotshoe flash has become increasingly popular. One way to improve flash photography is to diffuse the often harsh light flashes put out. The softbox in Hähnel’s Softbox60 kit is nicely designed, and its 60x60cm size makes it ideal for attaching to a hotshoe flash. It’s easily assembled: a moulded plastic bracket attaches to the flash using a compression bolt, then the softbox slots into it. Although the softbox adds bulk, it’s easy to handle. The fabric is of excellent quality and, most importantly, it softens the light and produces a good spread. The only down side is the quality of the bag the softbox arrives in: it’s not bad, but not up to the same standard as the rest of the kit.
