Damien explained that underpasses make great locations, as they provide direct, highly concentrated light that can make for very graphic compositions. For this image, he suggested dialing in one stop of negative exposure compensation to deepen the shadows and turn any pedestrians into silhouettes. I took lots of frames, but this one stood out because of its balanced composition, its strong leading lines, and the way the shape of the mirror on the far wall is repeated by the circular scratch-protector around the dog’s head.
