Stay at the shal­low end

One of the rea­sons this shot works is that there’s a sense of depth, with the fig­ures in the frame get­ting less blurred as your eye moves from the fore­ground peo­ple to the bust. To achieve this ef­fect, Damien ad­vised Paulo to man­u­ally fo­cus on the bust, and then set his 50mm lens to its widest aper­ture of f/1.4 to blur out ev­ery­thing ex­cept the bust.
