Shooting photos and video in steamy jungle terrain requires a lot of equipment and mastering two very different disciplines…

When you’re in the field, how do you decide whether to shoot video or photos?

Normally I have a schedule so I’ll know today, say, I have to do some photos for a magazine, or for my exhibition. But when I start filming, I need another tripod, which is very heavy, and then I put on the zoom, and the sound recording device. I can’t take photos as easily because it’s not the same equipment, so when I do that I have to stay in video. What is the total weight of the gear you take?

When I was shooting only photos it was 45 or 50 kilos, now I have 85 or 90 kilos with the video as well. There’s the camera, the zoom, sound device, the batteries, so it adds up very quickly. I always need an assistant when I’m shooting video. Carrying 45 or 50 kilos is very hard!
