In this shot, taken at the door of an old church in Carta­gena, Colom­bia, the exposure was set for the ex­te­rior, but as shot the in­te­rior is al­most fea­ture­less, con­ceal­ing the im­por­tant de­tail of the bell-ringer. This can be pulled out in RAW pro­cess­ing, but see what hap­pens when ex­actly the same pro­cess­ing (namely lo­cal ad­just­ments with a Grad­u­ated Filer and three Ra­dial Fil­ters), is ap­plied to the JPEG: there just isn’t the range of in­for­ma­tion in the file to work on.
