Keep it stable

John suggests setting up a tripod or using a monopod to reduce shaking and vertical movement when you’re shooting from a fast-moving boat. Alternatively, a stabilised lens, such as one of Nikon’s Vibration Reduction (VR) zooms, makes a worthy investment if you’re heading out on the trip of a lifetime. John also recommends a polarising filter when shooting near rivers and lakes to reduce glare on the surface of the water and deepen blue skies.

Balancing act

John advised Luis to set the white balance to its Cloudy preset for sunsets, as this will produce richer, warmer images, but to switch it to Auto or Daylight once the orange colours disappear.
