Manfrotto Pro Shoulder Bag 20 £125, $150

Manfrotto’s back-to-basics style may look drab next to the other, more retro-chic, options we’re looking at, but this bag ticks plenty of practicality boxes. Its slim size makes it ideal for toting in the city and should guarantee it meets airline cabin-luggage restrictions. However, there’s still enough space inside for a full-frame Nikon camera with an attached lens, plus three or four extra lenses, accessories and a tablet, all well protected by thick padding and customisable dividers.

Like the Domke bag, this one has a convenient slot in the top for fast access to your equipment, plus you get a separate rain cover for extra protection from bad weather. The bag itself is made from tough, water-resistant fabric and is suspended from a wide, comfy strap that’s kind on your shoulder.

Don’t be fooled by the bland styling; there’s a lot to like about this no-nonsense bag
