Get set up to shoot the sunrise
Even if you’re used to taking time-lapse images, there are a few extra things you need to consider when tackling this technique
Find the perfect spot
Pick a location where something will change. If you plan to shoot at sunrise or sunset, that means a place where the light will alter within a short time.
Check the sun’s position
Before you head out, check where the sun will be in the sky – the Photographer’s Ephemeris can tell you this for any place in the world (www.photoephemeris.com).
Compose your shot
Compose your image in advance. You know where the sun will be at the start of your shoot, so take a compass to gauge where it will be by the end of the session.
Prevent movement
Any slight camera shake will mean your images won’t fit together in post-production, so use a tripod and shoot somewhere sheltered from any strong wind.
