OUR APPRENTICE says…

In the afternoon we made our way to the end of the finishing straight to shoot some wider shots. The aim here was to capture the start of the race, before all the cars had become strung out, and to include the start line and the paddocks behind to provide a bit of context and a sense of place. I set an aperture of f/5 on Adam’s 70-200mm f/2.8 (see Killer kit #01), to ensure the whole of the lead car would be in focus, and fired off a burst of about a dozen shots, but this one stood out – it’s wellframed, the leading cars are nicely separated as they round the first corner, and the sweep of the track leads the eye from the start in the top left to the leading car in the bottom left. The fact that it’s the most colourful car on the grid is the icing on the cake.
