Here’s how to create your very own Jurassic Park...

01 Scale it down

Have your model stand a suitable distance from the camera – the further back they go, the smaller they’ll appear in frame. Position the dinosaur so your model can interact with it, using Live View to help with composition. This is where convincing acting can pay dividends!

02 Stay sharp

Both of your subjects need to be sharp so that it looks as though they are on the same plane. As they are far away from each other, you’ll need to close your aperture down to get a deep depth of field. We used aperture-priority mode and shot at f/29.

03 Step back

Move yourself further back to keep the entire scene in focus. Hyperfocal distance charts or apps can help here. Type in your settings and the app will tell you how far you need to stand back from your nearest subject for both to appear sharp.
