01 Reflections

At the right angle, water in front of your subject can create a beautiful reflection that mirrors the edge of the body. A shallow, dark tray with an inch of water is all that’s needed. Gently disturb the surface of the water for a rippled effect.

02 High-key backlighting

For this high-key, silhouetted look, use a white background. Position the lights behind the model, pointed at the background to blow it out. Angle the softboxes slightly inwards to create a spill of light that gently lifts the edges of the subject.

03 Low-key edge-lighting

For classic edge-lighting, keep frontal illumination to a minimum. With a softbox directly to the left and right of the model and slightly behind her, you can create bright highlights along the edges of the body.
