Which shutter speed?

It’s almost impossible to work out the best shutter speed for any given ride without experimentation, as it depends on the speed of the ride, the power of the lights and the effect you’re after. If you want to turn a ride into an abstract array of glowing lines, then a shutter speed of two seconds or more should do the trick. But if you prefer to show a hint of motion while still leaving a discernible subject, then a speed of a quarter of a second or less might be more suitable.
