Upside-down soup

Issue 51 (October 2015) – Page 72, photo number 3 – Fish Soup: is it me or is this upside down? It looks far better if I turn the magazine through 180 degrees… but that could be because I use a D610 that came so far down in your Enthusiast SLRs comparison that I’m thinking of trading it in for a box with a hole. Wait – Nikon provided a box with the camera; now I shall get my money’s worth!

Matt Phillips, via email You’re right Matt, the image does feel more natural the other way up, perhaps because of the position of the bowl and the spoon, and the perspective on the jar of allspice berries. We honestly haven’t reversed it, though, it’s exactly as the photographer supplied it.

Don’t forget, it’s not what camera you’ve got, it’s what you can do with it that really counts. All the high-tech kit in the world will never beat a great eye for a photograph.
