LIGHTEN SHADOWS

Launch Nikon Capture NX-D and use the Folder view to browse to our unprocessed landscape_ start.NEF file. Click on the Edit panel. Click on the Tone (Detail) icon to access that panel. Drag the Shadow Protection slider to 44 to selectively lighten the shadows.

RES TORE HIGHLIGHTS

Drag the Highlight Protection slider to 32. This gently restores detail to some of the brighter highlights, such as in the clouds, without altering the exposure of the shadows. You then have the option of pushing the D-Lighting HS slider right to brighten up the shadows a little more.

BOST COLOURS

The newly lightened shadows can look a bit desaturated. Click on the Tone panel icon. Push the Saturation slider right to 45 to make the landscape’s colours look more vibrant and attractive. Choose File>Convert Files to save a JPEG version of your processed RAW file.
