The sensibly-priced Manfrotto kit is a favourite of many photographers, and with good reason. Its build quality is very good, leg and head adjustments are quick and easy, and the pivoting centre column adds versatility for macro and ultra-wideangle shooting. Spending five or six times as much on the Gitzo might seem like madness after all that but, if you want the ultimate in strength and rigidity even at very tall operating heights, it’s worth the money and should last a lifetime.
