Camera backpack £159, $240 www.bagwise.com

This backpack’s retro design sets it apart from your common-or-garden black camera backpack, and unless you hang a tripod on the side there is little about it that would hint at it being anything other than a standard daypack.

Under the button-clipped top flap there’s space for personal effects or a light rain jacket, while the top, sides and front all feature pockets for stashing accessories, or even an eight-inch iPad. However, flip the pack over and unzip the back and you’ll find a padded inner space for your camera kit. This section is removable, so if you want to transform the bag into a standard backpack for everyday use then you can. The padded insert features enough space for a medium-sized D-SLR, such as the Nikon D610, with a 50mm lens attached, plus there’s further space for an additional small lens or two.

The quality of the bag is excellent. The canvas outer acts as a tough shell that will withstand a splash or two, and despite the simple look of the design, the shoulder straps are very sturdy, and provide good support. If you’re looking for a bag that looks nothing like a camera bag, then you really can’t go wrong with the Kampe.

The Kampe canvas photo backpack has a quickrelease tripod mount, thoug h if you’re keen to be discreet, that woul d give the game away rather…
