Power zoom

The retractable power-zoom VR lens automatically flips out and retracts when you switch the camera on and off. Precise adjustments are enabled by a fly-by-wire zoom ring on the lens.

Fn button

You can assign the customisable function button to exposure compensation, metering mode, white balance, ISO, Picture Control and AF modes.

Mode dial

Plentiful shooting modes include some intriguing options, including 4k UHD (Ultra High Definition) movie capture, albeit at a disappointingly slow frame rate of 15 frames per second.

Pop-up flash

The pop-up flash lacks power and is absolutely tiny. Unfortunately, there’s no hotshoe for adding an external flashgun, which is a limiting factor for a system camera.

LCD screen

The tilting LCD touchscreen makes menu navigation and AF point selection intuitive. It also pivots over the top for ‘selfie’ mode shooting.

Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi button enables wireless connection to other devices and networks, and includes NFC (Near Field Communication) compatibility.

AF assist lamp

The green AF assist lamp helps the hybrid autofocus system lock onto close-range targets even in complete darkness.

Command dial

The main command dial surrounds the video start/stop recording button and falls within easy reach of your right thumb. It’s reminiscent of the command dial found on the D5500.

Multi-selector

This gives quick access to wide-ranging shooting settings as well as exposure compensation, flash mode and drive mode settings.
