Nikon 1 J5 Lab test re­sults

It lags a lit­tle be­hind the D3200 for cap­tur­ing fine de­tail, and sim­ply can’t com­pete with the three newer D-SLRs in our group.

De­spite hav­ing an iden­ti­cal score to the D3300, the J5 tends to pro­duce cooler-look­ing im­ages when us­ing auto white bal­ance.

Lab re­sults look con­vinc­ing, but noise at high ISOs is more no­tice­able than on the D-SLRs.

Dy­namic range can suf­fer when you’re squeez­ing lots of pix­els onto a small sen­sor, but the J5 per­forms re­mark­ably well.


Good but not great, the J5 can’t quite match the im­age qual­ity of its D-SLR cousins. It can’t com­pete when it comes to re­pro­duc­ing fine de­tail or controlling im­age noise at high ISO set­tings.
