David says… When shoot­ing big wildlife events, such as a large pop­u­la­tion of seals birthing, you will have to do some­thing wild: crop. Some­where like Donna you have to be bru­tal. There will be so many an­i­mals that you will need to get in tight and be very harsh with your crop­ping. Some­times, as with Renzo’s first Hot Shot, crop­ping out most of the an­i­mal and high­light­ing cer­tain fea­tures (like the face), or cap­tur­ing eye con­tact be­tween you and the an­i­mals, is cru­cial. You need to make or­der out of chaos. Renzo took the time to pick out sub­jects amid Donna’s large gath­er­ing and used his tele­photo lens to zone in on one pup.
