David takes us around the world with the stories from some of his favourite images Off Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island lies an oceanic trench famed for attracting large numbers of whales, dolphins and seabirds. I got in tight here with the 10.5mm fisheye to create a sense of being in the thick of the action. This shot was taken from my car in early spring. He or she was chasing another hare, which veered off as they approached, giving me a fleeting opportunity to capture this head-on shot before it too changed course. Last summer I spent a few days in central Spain photographing sandgrouse. The large numbers of stone curlews that came to drink soon after dawn were an added bonus. Here, I concentrated on the bird’s eye and its reflection.
