With tele­photo lenses, a good rule of thumb for hand­held shoot­ing is to keep your shut­ter speed equiv­a­lent to one over your fo­cal length, so 1/600 sec for a 600mm lens. Shoot­ing a static sub­ject with a mono­pod, you may be able to get away with a slightly slower shut­ter speed.
