Depth of field
Depth of field impacts on all types of photography, but is very apparent when shooting gardens. See the difference between the Hot Shot and this image, taken seconds apart and with the aperture being the only difference. The Hot Shot was taken at f/2.8 and the subject is isolated by the blurred foreground and background. This photo was shot at f/6.3 and has a greater depth of field, obvious in the more clearly defined shapes in the plants surrounding the cosmos. It looks busier as a result, and the impact of the flower is lost.
