Our Apprentice says…

Our final stop was the South African Meadow, which was much sparser than the other sections. For my Shot of the Day I used a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 to narrow the depth of field dramatically between the main flower and those in the background. I’m especially happy with the barrel distortion that this lens has given the flowers in the background. I hit the focus spot-on with single-point autofocus to bring a crispness to the petals. I tried to work all the elements of composition that Philip had taught me throughout the day, including getting low, making angles and following the rule of thirds.
