The N-Photo experts say…

Here’s what you need to get shots as good as Roberto’s

Keep it simple

Use the kit you have. If that’s an 18-55mm kit lens, you can still achieve great results. It’s a matter of honing your abilities. Don’t feel that you have to upgrade when you can learn to do more with what you’ve got.

On the cheap

Working with a small budget you can still make big photos. Cheap needn’t be nasty. Think of how affordable props, such as the flour and milk Roberto has used, can look on camera, and how you can light them effectively.

One light

Some photographers are famous for using multiple flash set ups, or only using the most expensive lighting equipment. But as we know from the Teach Yourself Flash series (see page 40), you only need one light to make the shot.

Black and white

Keep things simple and shoot your images with a black and white conversion in mind. This way, you can focus on the textures in your photos without having to worry about colour correction and balancing too many things at once.
