Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM | C £740, $990
SMART FEATURES COME AT A VERY COMPETITIVE PRICE
One of Sigma’s brace of 150-600mm lenses, this is the more lightweight and inexpensive C-class (Contemporary) edition. It’s essentially the same price as the competing Tamron lens but is rather richer in features.
The ring-type ultrasonic autofocus system adds an extra MO (Manual Override) setting which is useful in continuous AF mode. The optical stabiliser includes a panning mode, while custom modes for focusing and stabilisation can be applied via Sigma’s optional USB Dock. These are then available via a switch on the lens barrel. Another novel feature is that the zoom lock switch can be engaged at any marked focal length in the zoom range.
The Sigma C lens gives similarly quick but not superfast autofocus performance as the Tamron 150-600mm lens. Image quality is also quite similar on the whole, but the Sigma retains better sharpness at the long end of the zoom range, especially when using the widest available aperture.
