The right features for the right prints
The Epson XP-760 and XP-860 are the only two printers in the group that have a conventional ‘photo’ ink line-up containing six dye-based inks, including light cyan and light magenta.
The Canon printers have a maximum print resolution of 4800x1200dpi and 2.0pl droplet size, whereas the Epson printers have a slightly higher 5760x1440dpi resolution with 1.5pl droplets.
All printers on test can use ‘XL’ higher-capacity cartridges. With these, ink costs per millilitre work out at £1.36/$0.82 for the Canons, £1.48/$1.01 for the Epson XP-530/630 and £1.16/$0.78 for the Epson XP-760/860.
Our tested speeds for top-quality borderless A4 photo printing came out at 2m 05s for both Canons, 2m 52s for the XP-530/630 and 2m 45s for the XP-760/860.
