In di­rect, over­head sun­light, shad­ows are plen­ti­ful and harsh. “Never shoot at mid­day” you hear pho­tog­ra­phers cry over and over. But you can when you use a dif­fuser. By plac­ing a dif­fuser over your sub­ject you can soften all of that harsh sun­light and make your shots ap­pear in­stantly stu­dio-like. Most re­flec­tors in­clude a dif­fuser. “This should be your first pur­chase when start­ing out with macro pho­tog­ra­phy,” says Heather.
