Chillblast’s contender is all about speed, posting a winning Cinebench score of 678. It also leads the field in RAM capacity, and its SSD rivals the ThinkPad’s super-fast storage. You only get a 128GB SSD, but teamed with a 1TB conventional hard drive, its the most spacious set-up here.

However, all this speed and storage affects battery life: we could only extract three hours nine minutes, which is especially disappointing compared with the similarly-specced ZenBook. Like the Lenovo, Chillblast’s display also has a matte coating, which reduces colour vibrancy. Full HD resolution over the 15.6-inch panel isn’t high enough to conceal individual pixels, but brightness and contrast are good, as is the overall viewing experience.

Pros

Best processing speed and storage capacity on test; fair price for the spec

Cons

Relatively bulky; lacks premium feel; poor battery life

We say

Plenty of power, just be sure not to stray too far from a mains connection Overall score

The black plastic casing may not look inspiring, but it helps make this laptop lighter than the similar-size ZenBook
