Light sandwich
Like many mountain bike photographers, Seb likes shooting the action with a wide-angle lens and lighting the scene with a burst of flash
What is your preferred flash set-up?
Well, my favourite is a set-up that’s quite common among mountain bike photographers who get in close with a wide-angle lens. I like to sandwich the subject between two different light sources, so you have a main light at the front or side and a rim light behind. A good friend of mine uses more front light for his main light, whereas I like to go for harsher side-lighting. I also like to rack the rear light up to full power to give my subjects a little more rim lighting. So I use two lights, each on its own stand, and each attached to a PocketWizard trigger, with the main trigger on the camera.
