The day was coming to a close and we were both happy with the shots we had already taken, but two friendly ponies trekked up to us and started to investigate. They weren’t shy, and it soon became obvious that a telephoto lenses was going to be too long. I switched to a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and managed to frame the scene so that I had both ponies, some sky and the mountains all in one shot – a classic Icelandic view! I deliberately stopped down my aperture to f/7.1 to increase the depth of field, making the ponies sharp from nose to tail.
