1 Use the longest focal length

Zoom the lens to its longest focal length, as the narrower angle of view this gives you will enable you to frame the subject against a smaller patch of the blurred background.

2 Hold back the background

Make sure the backdrop is positioned far enough from the subject so that is falls outside of the depth of field – the further away the background, the more blurred it will appear.

3 Get in close

Move in close to your subject, as the closer you focus, the shallower the depth of field, and the more blurred the background will be.
