Top tips for…portraits
1 Use the longest focal length
Zoom the lens to its longest focal length, as the narrower angle of view this gives you will enable you to frame the subject against a smaller patch of the blurred background.
2 Hold back the background
Make sure the backdrop is positioned far enough from the subject so that is falls outside of the depth of field – the further away the background, the more blurred it will appear.
3 Get in close
Move in close to your subject, as the closer you focus, the shallower the depth of field, and the more blurred the background will be.
