Chris­tian says… I like to use Live View along­side the cam­era’s me­ter­ing when de­cid­ing on ex­po­sure set­tings. With ISO set to 100, I set the aper­ture in Man­ual mode [see be­low], and then ad­just the shut­ter speed based on how the scene looks in Live View, rather than what the cam­era rec­om­mends (as left to its own de­vices the cam­era will try to ren­der the scene as an av­er­age mid­tone, even if it’s ac­tu­ally darker or lighter than mid­tone). Once it looks right, I’ll dou­ble check the ex­po­sure us­ing the his­togram view.
