Welcome to issue 72
“Road trippin’ with my two favourite allies, fully loaded we got snacks and supplies...” So begins Road Trippin’ by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which waxes lyrical about the simple pleasures of the life on the road. I love the song and I love road trips, but best of all, I love capturing them on my Nikon. In the Chilis’ case they got lost in the USA, whereas for this issue’s feature, we got lost in the wilds of Scotland. The views may be different, but the feeling of freedom is the same. You can find out how we got on, and what photographic wisdom and images we came back with, on page 26.
Someone who did get lost in the USA is the reader behind this issue’s Photo Stories – you can enjoy his stunning photos of Yellowstone National Park on page 70. And roads are also a key feature in one of this issue’s Nikon Skills tutorials, on shooting traffic trails – in this case in Norway (see page 42).
And if all that sounds a bit exhausting, you might want to slow things down with a long-exposure seascape (p. 50), a tree-drag abstract (p. 48), or an artistic wedding shoot a bit closer to home (p. 58). Well, our home...
All that, plus what it takes to be a Getty news photographer (p. 100), what it’s like to photograph a Champions League final (p. 110), and what you should look for if you’re in the market for a Nikon-fit 70-200mm (p. 118). Enjoy!
