Ex­pose for the high­lights

If a shot’s high­lights are over­ex­posed it can be im­pos­si­ble to re­cover clipped de­tail. You’re much more likely to re­cover de­tail in un­der­ex­posed shad­ows. It there­fore makes sense to set your cam­era to Man­ual mode and me­ter the cam­era to ex­pose for the brighter sky.
