“I pre­fer longer macro lenses,” says Ross, “as the reach a longer lens gives you means you can shoot from fur­ther back with­out dis­turb­ing the in­sect. Also, you only have to re­com­pose a frac­tion to dra­mat­i­cally change your back­drop. My favourite is Nikon’s 200mm f/4, but any­thing around 100mm or above, such as Andy’s Sigma 105mm f/2.8, is per­fect for an in­sect shoot.”
