Field skills Extending flash

The big challenge that tends to come with using flash when you’re photographing wildlife through a long lens is: how do you extend the light from the flashgun so that it actually reaches the subject of your shot? “I use a third-party device, called a Better Beamer,” reveals Frans, “although there are a number of these types of devices on the market now. It’s a very simple device that includes a fresnel lens that bundles the output of the strobe and projects it further. I find this combination of Speedlights and those projected flash gizmos to be quite effective, and I’ve been using them for many years.”
