Lens hood

Photo hides may face in any direction, and south-facing hides will have more sunlight beaming towards them (in the northern hemisphere). In such situations, a lens hood should be used to avoid flare – caused by light directly striking the lens – and so produce an image with deeper shadows and better overall contrast. It’s good practice to keep your lens hood on at all times when shooting wildlife as it reduces the chances of a glint of light from the lens startling wary creatures.
