SOME Of TOM’S MOUNTAINOUS FAVOURITES ARE a REAL visual FEAST
light trails & full Moon
I was showing a group how to shoot the blue hour with car light trails during a workshop on the Lofoten Islands, Norway. The road leading to the mountain was an important part of the composition and required a 30 sec exposure to allow enough time for the car to drive through. The moon was a second exposure.
Mt. rainier reflecting in tipsoo lake At sunrise
I arrived in darkness with only my headtorch and the light of a full moon to guide me. I intended to photograph the full moon setting over Mt. Rainier at sunrise. But as the morning broke, bands of clouds drifted in, obscuring the moon, and eventually erupted with colour.
castle Mountain At sunset
This is a location that I take my workshop participants to along the Bow River, Canada, in January. There are often little pools of water that haven’t frozen to give perfect reflections that appear like a porthole into another perfectly reflected dimension. I’ll be going back for one last trip in January next year.
