ED Or­dyn­ski is best known as a cham­pion rally driver. But these days he is a bor­na­gain green star, win­ner of his class in last year’s Global Green Chal­lenge and ca­pa­ble of get­ting 1269km from a sin­gle tank of fuel in a Hyundai i20. And now he is a judge for the Cars­guide Car of the Year award. ‘‘A lot of what I learned in motorsport about ef­fi­cient driv­ing is di­rectly rel­e­vant to fuel-ef­fi­cient mo­tor­ing in the 21st cen­tury,’’ Or­dyn­ski said. His tro­phy cabi­net is crowed by an Aus­tralian Rally Cham­pi­onship award and the sil­ver­ware for eight show­room class wins for Mit­subishi in the show­room class for Group N cars, but Or­dyn­ski prefers to look for­ward and not back. He joins the COTY team be­cause of his vast driv­ing ex­pe­ri­ence, his tech­ni­cal knowl­edge and his first­hand ex­pe­ri­ence with some of Aus­tralia’s biggest fleet car buy­ers. Or­dyn­ski has a se­lec­tion of clas­sic cars at his home in the Ade­laide hills, but also has a work­ing-class Toy­ota HiLux for daily chores. ‘‘I think the biggest chal­lenge in mo­tor­ing to­day is keep­ing cars fun and prac­ti­cal while en­sur­ing that are kind to the planet,’’ he said.
