ED Ordynski is best known as a champion rally driver. But these days he is a bornagain green star, winner of his class in last year’s Global Green Challenge and capable of getting 1269km from a single tank of fuel in a Hyundai i20. And now he is a judge for the Carsguide Car of the Year award. ‘‘A lot of what I learned in motorsport about efficient driving is directly relevant to fuel-efficient motoring in the 21st century,’’ Ordynski said. His trophy cabinet is crowed by an Australian Rally Championship award and the silverware for eight showroom class wins for Mitsubishi in the showroom class for Group N cars, but Ordynski prefers to look forward and not back. He joins the COTY team because of his vast driving experience, his technical knowledge and his firsthand experience with some of Australia’s biggest fleet car buyers. Ordynski has a selection of classic cars at his home in the Adelaide hills, but also has a working-class Toyota HiLux for daily chores. ‘‘I think the biggest challenge in motoring today is keeping cars fun and practical while ensuring that are kind to the planet,’’ he said.
