Alison’s labour of V8 love

NT News - Motoring - - FRONT PAGE -

WOMEN resort to many things to ease the pain of childbirth, but watching V8 Supercars is usually not on the list.

However that’s what Alison Storm did, and its that level of dedication that has won her the Dunlop VIP trip to the coming Sydney 500 on December 3-5, including a dinner with V8 legend John Bowe.

‘‘I watched the entire 1985 Bathurst in labour, I have cleaned a hotel room for a week for John Bowe, and I have fuel in my veins,’’ Storm said in her entry to prove she was Australia’s biggest V8 Supercar fan.

She narrowly beat a few other dedicated entrants, including Aeron Napper of Sydney, who admitted; ‘‘I’m 27 and the walls of my bedroom are covered in V8Supercar posters and, much to my girlfriend’s disgust, I have a V8 Supercar doona cover.’’

His girlfriend should be warned she could end up in the same situation as the fiance of Hobart’s Darren Quinn, who said; ‘‘I’m getting married on the 4th December, I’m sure the missus won’t mind if I’m not there, this is way more important.’’

These were just a few of the very clever entries that made the decision a difficult one for the judges, and proved the V8 Supercar series has a committed fan base.
