STEEL car bod­ies can shave 85kg off the weight thanks to a new steel from the world’s largest steel maker, ArcelorMi­tal. It says us­ing nan­otech­nol­ogy, it can now of­fer a steel car that weighs the same as one made of alu­minum cars— but at a much cheaper price. ArcelorMi­tal says it is up to three years away from re­al­ity but al­ready Ford says it is ex­tremely in­ter­ested. MIT­SUBISHI has wired up Aus­tralia’s first pub­lic elec­tric ve­hi­cle fast charger at its head of­fice in Ade­laide which can charge the Mit­subishi i-MiEV bat­tery to 80 per cent ca­pac­ity in just 30 min­utes. VOLK­SWA­GEN’S Golf R has be­come Top Gear’s Hot Hatch of the Year. It was sin­gled out in a hotly-con­tested cat­e­gory be­cause of its mix of dy­namic sta­bil­ity, pow­er­ful and charis­matic en­gine and ev­ery­day re­fine­ment. The Golf R takes the Top Gear crown from the Golf GTI.
