Plea to lift minimum driving age to 18

NT News - Motoring - - FRONT PAGE -

THE minimum driving age should be lifted to at least 18, according to a nationwide survey released yesterday.

While 51 per cent of the 1008 people surveyed nat- ionally called for a higher minimum driving age, 72 per cent of South Australians favoured the increased age limit, followed by Canberra residents (62 per cent) and NSW and Queensland- ers 54 per cent. Some called for the driving age to be lifted to 21, according to the survey, conducted by Australian peer-to-peer car rental company DriveMyCar Rentals.

Company spokesman Daniel Noble said the findings reflected the firm’s experience — with 95 per cent of owners not wishing to rent their vehicles to drivers aged under 21.
