Fuel thrift nudges barrier

NT News - Motoring - - CARS GUIDE -

A DIESEL-powered Smart car has fallen agonisingly short of breaking the 100-miles-per-gallon barrier (2.82L/100km) in a competition in Britain. The Smart Fortwo CDI won the 11th MPGMarathon with fuel economy of 99.24mpg (2.84L/100km), completing the 595km course using less than 18 litres of diesel. Second was a Suzuki Swift 1.3 DDiS (3.26L/100km). But the big surprise was the third place-getter: the family-size Skoda Octavia Greenline (3.28L/100km)
